NEWS

Apparently verbal agreements have been reached with potential sponsors with regards funding the PBL. However still nothing concrete has been obtained. Also a continuing trend of the start date being pushed further back is not very positive with rumours now of a September tip-off.

NEWS

News from the PBL executive is that there are negotiations in progress with a confidential sponsor and things are looking very positive. There is talk of a league tip off in June or July 2008.

MERRY CHISTMAZZZZZZZZZZ.......

It is official there will be no movement until the new year with regards any sponsorship for the PBL , which means at best the leaague may only tip off in April 2008.

FASTEST FADING SPORT IN THE COUNTRY

9 December 2007

As the corporate world goes into go slow mode with the festive season fast approaching , there still seems to be no urgency in finalising the sponsorship contract ,which created a buzz in the basketball community a few weeks ago, with a few of the key role players out of the country on work commitments or taking leave. Work commitments is understandable but TAKING LEAVE ??? And we wonder why our pro league is still on hold ......

WE ARE STILL WAITING

18 November 2007

After an eight year break due to ridiculous  reasons the P.B.L resurfaced in January of 2006 with a short succesful exhibition season which was supposed to be a forerunner for a full fledged season to begin in March. Well March has come and gone and still no sign of P.B.L. Franchise owners cannot supply valid reasons why the sponsors are not willing to fund this league. Rumours are that the marketing company employed by the PBL executive is just not doing a good enough job. So why not replace them? Well who knows?

The potential to grow a succesful pro league in South Africa is enormous , so why it has not happened can only be blamed on the administrators of the sport in South Africa. Countries like Angola have developed a succesful  proffesional league under difficult circumstances and the results have been reflected in the huge achievements of their national team at the world championships and the olympics.

All we can do is sit and hope !!
